About Us

The local food movement is a "collaborative effort to build more locally based, self-reliant food economies - one in which sustainable food production, processing, distribution and consumption is integrated to enhance the economic, environmental and social health of a particular place." Those who prefer to eat locally grown/produced food sometimes call themselves "localvores" or locavores[learn more]

Locavore Farms is our own attempt to help our neighbors live well and eat locally.

We are located in scenic and remote Surprise Valley, California. We are producers of healthy organic food, herbs, and flowers. The farmland is located at Rancho LoveJoyPeace, a former family ranch in Fort Bidwell. The land at LoveJoyPeace is busy being transformed into a food source and a source of inspiration for the 21st century population of Surprise Valley and beyond. We are lucky to have the advice and support of many of our neighbors, including Jerry Schliesser, who has been farming all his life, and has run Jerry's Little Green House for years.

Or values are honesty, hard work, fairness, and fun.  We use sustainable practices as much as possible, and embrace the ethics and principles of Permaculture. We welcome volunteers to work on the land, and in exchange offer beautiful camping sites and healthy meals made with love.

We sell our produce to local stores, at farmers' markets, and at our U-Pick in Fort Bidwell (every morning throughout the farming season).  Please look through our site to learn more about us, and let us know what questions you have.
