| July 20, 2009 Dear friends: Wow! Sunny hot days fore and aft! The plants are loving it, and they told us they wanted you to come visit. That's right, the U-Pick is opening next weekend! We have some cabbage, onions, squash, chard, cucumbers, herbs, a few beets, some broccoli and cauliflower, maybe an eggplant or two, celery, lots of lettuce, and some peppers for you now, and in the coming weeks we'll also have (fingers crossed!) corn, many kinds of pole beans, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, and more. This summer we'll be open every single morning by 8. If you come in the afternoon and we decided to go fishing or swimming you might miss us, but you won't miss the garden, and we'll have self-service available for savvy customers. Our all-you-can-pick special returns this year, with improvements - still the very best bargain on the freshest imaginable organically grown-with-love produce. We'll also have an all-you-can-eat weekly deal for our local friends who want to use Locavore Farms like their own garden, and we hope to be able to offer you some of the bounty of our neighbor's farms. We will be at the Cedarvlle Farmers' Market on Saturday morning spreading the word about the U-Pick and selling some produce and other goods from our farm and the farms of our neighbors, so we hope you'll come by to see us. Of course you'd like to see the farm for yourself, and we welcome you to come by on Sunday or any day after that. On July 26, there just might be a treat or two to welcome you to the picking season (something with zucchini in it? maybe!). Remember that Bidwell Creek flows right through the property, and you are more than welcome to bring a picnic lunch (or pick your own!) and relax under a tree with the cool water flowing gently by. Do you remember how to get here? Just turn west on North Street in Fort Bidwell and follow the signs to the farm. You can always call us before you come to get directions or to find out what's ready to pick. Our phone number is 279-2106. We are so excited to show you around! Until then, stay safe and drink plenty of water! Laurie |
